Dinner at Maggiano’s in Short Pump

So I heard it was a very nice restaurant to go to in Short Pump. A little pricey, but elegant and worth the money...

My boyfriend took me there for a nice dining experience and it was my first time there. We waited at the bar while a seat was made available to us. He ordered us a couple of drinks, which made me nervous due to the fact that I had no idea how much they would cost. We enjoyed our drinks while waiting, he paid the tab and we were told to follow the hostess upstairs. I thought this would be cute. Upstairs must be nice. Nope. We had to maneuver quite a bit around the “children’s section” to come up on what the hostess said would be more adult seating. Ummm yeah. A corner table all the way in the back, which looked like it could have been romantic had it not been RIGHT NEXT to a waiter’s and busboy’s station. Before ordering dinner, I found out our drinks had come to a total of twenty dollars, plus the tip. YIKES! I mean I do enjoy a nice drink, but come on. I decided I would be nursing that entire drink through dinner… And I sure did.

Overall, my meal was good. I had Eggplant Parmesan and it was pretty yummy. But my boyfriend ordered something that left him very unhappy. I can’t remember what it was. The waiter kept forgetting about us because we were back in the corner. And let me tell you, the noise of the plates and cups clinking and clanking right next to our table was so annoying I wanted to yell. But, I wasn’t raised to be like that. That and the noise of the kids was driving me crazy. The adult seating and children seating should be separated for a reason. Don’t get me wrong, I love kids. But with all the running of the staff back and forth to this station right next to us, dropping things, talking loudly, and making so much work noise in general, I just lost my patience. For me, though, the WORST part was that behind this station there was a full trash bag which was made very visible to me. That is what ruined it for me. Trash? If I had wanted to look at trash while eating, I could have just gone to a fast food joint. Gross!!
